世界中で大ヒットしたPortugal. The Man『 Feel It Still 』

今回は米国のロックバンド、Portugal. The Man（ポルトガル・ザ・マン）の「Feel It Still」をご紹介します。アメリカをはじめ世界中で大ヒットしたこの楽曲は、2017年発売のアルバム「Woodstock（ウッドストック）」に収録されています。ビルボード・オルタナティブ部門で20週連続1位を記録するなど、歴代最長を記録しました！

Portugal. The Manってどんなバンド？

米国ポートランドを拠点に活動するロック・バンド、Portugal. The Man。ロック界で最も多くの受賞数や、数千回もの公演、フェスティバルに出演するなど輝かしい実績を誇ります。2017年発売のアルバム『Woodstock』はRIAA認定のゴールドディスクを受賞。「Feel It Still」は最優秀ポップ・デュオ/グループ・パフォーマンス部門や6x RIAA認定のプラチナムディスクなどを受賞。

2020年にPTM財団を設立し、ネイティブアメリカンの人権、地域保険、環境問題はどの活動を積極的に行っている社会派バンドです。

ちょっとブレイクタイム：ヒッピーとネオヒッピー

この歌に出てくる1966年と1986年は、ヒッピーとネオヒッピーが台頭していた時代です。反戦運動や公民権運動などの反体制運動を通して政治への主張を掲げていたヒッピーや、ヒッピーをファンションとして取り入れるもさほど政治などには興味のないお祭り野郎ネオヒッピー達を回顧して「俺はその頃から何も変わっていないんだ」と歌っているのです。
ビデオの途中に未確認動物やブタが出てくるのですが、カルトや腐敗政治やこのよく分からない時代へのメッセージなのかもしれません。
